Validation of the Microscopic Traffic Flow Model VISSIM in Different Real-World Situations

چکیده
This paper presents the possibilities of validating the microscopic traffic flow simulation model VISSIM, both on a microscopic and a macroscopic level. VISSIM implements a psycho-physical carfollowing model and thus provides a very realistic driving behavior. The complex model offers but also requires many model parameters that can be calibrated using measurement data from driving experiments. Some examples of how certain parameters influence driving behavior are given by comparing a simulated approach-and-following-process with records from a probe vehicle. The model parameters can be adjusted to reflect different traffic situations. As examples, the model is validated using measurement data taken from a German freeway and from a US freeway, where driver behavior as well as traffic regulations are substantially different.

Evaluation and further development of car following models in microscopic traffic simulation
This paper presents findings from a comparative evaluation of car-following behaviour in a number of microscopic traffic simulators. The paper describes the results of the calibration and validation of the car following model implemented in the ARTEMiS simulator developed by the author. The calibration and validation are based on a ‘standard’ car-following experiment (called the Boschtest) whic...
متن کاملAssessment of macroscopic models of Traffic Flow
The work discussed in this paper consists of a statistical assessment of various finite difference schemes for approximating macroscopic models of traffic flow. Using VISSIM we simulated traffic flow on a section of a freeway with arbitrary characteristics. VISSIM is a traffic flow simulator that uses a microscopic model for traffic. By using data from a microscopic simulation, we are able dete...
متن کاملDeveloping a Model of Heterogeneity in Driver’s Behavior
Intelligent Driver Model (IDM) is a well-known microscopic model of traffic flow within the traffic engineering societies. While it is a powerful technique for modeling traffic flows, the Intelligent Driver Model lacks the potential of accommodating the notion of drivers’ heterogeneous behavior whenever they are on roads. Concerning the above mentioned, this paper takes the lane to recognize th...
متن کاملComparison of SimTraffic and VISSIM Microscopic Traffic Simulation Tools in Modeling Roundabouts
SimTraffic and VISSIM are two microscopic traffic simulation tools that are capable of modeling arterial roads with signalized intersections and roundabouts. This study compares the performance of the two simulation tools in modeling dual lane and triple lane roundabouts under different scenarios such as traffic volume, proportion of left turning movement, and proportion of trucks in the traffi...
متن کاملMANFIS Based Modeling and Prediction of the Driver-Vehicle Unit Behavior in Overtaking Scenarios
Overtaking a slow lead vehicle is a complex maneuver because of the variety of overtaking conditions and driver behavior. In this study, two novel prediction models for overtaking behavior are proposed. These models are derived based on multi-input multi-output adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (MANFIS). They are validated at microscopic level and are able to simulate and predict the fut...
